Home slips back as John Lewis sees sales jump
Home sales fell back at John Lewis in the past week in contrast to a healthy overall sales rise.
‘Home sales were down 2.3% [in the week to 26 August], however, BBQ sales were up 11% as customers made the most of the warmer weather heading into the Bank Holiday weekend,’ said Jon Williams
John Lewis merchandising operations director.
‘Total sales for the week were up 6.2% on last year, at £83.8m. Fashion had a strong week, up 12.8%, driven by the price matching of a competitor's promotional event. Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales performed particularly strongly, up 22%, driven by strong sales at beauty counters. Both mens and womenswear also saw double digit growth, and womens accessories grew by 11.4%.
‘EHT sales were also up this week, rising by 8.2%. Vision had a strong week, with sales up 20.4%, and communication tech also saw growth of 20.9%, with both Apple and Windows products performing strongly.’
Home sales for the four week period were up by 1.8%.
