Increased lighting sales helped lift home sales and contribute to strong overall growth at John Lewis last week.
Total sales for the week to 23 September were £87.3m, up 6.5% on last year with both stores and online seeing sales growth.
‘Home sales were up 0.6% for the week. Gifts, cook & dine saw sales grow by 3.2% as customers continue to purchase back to uni items and also begin to look ahead to Halloween and Christmas. Elsewhere, lighting was up 5.4% and textiles and home accessories saw sales rise by 1.9%,’ said Johnathan Marsh, John Lewis electricals and home technology buying director.
‘Fashion sales were up 8.6%. Womenswear saw an uplift of 18.2% driven by strong sales of cold weather clothing and the price matching of a competitor's promotion. Menswear also experienced double digit growth with sales up 13.4% and womens’ accessories saw sales rise by 8.7%.
‘EHT sales were up 11.1%, driven by strong mobile sales due to the Apple launch. Accessories also enjoyed a good week, again influenced by Apple and also by the launch of own-brand phone cases.’
