At Home stores continue success for John Lewis
While Black Friday delivered its online boost, it was its At Home stores that were the star performers for John Lewis last week.
Black Friday boosted the chain to a 18.4% sales increase to £147.04m including a 35.7% increase in online sales. 'Looking at the pattern of trade we can see just how much shopping behaviour is changing. There was a significant uplift in shoppers surfing from midnight to 8am and a spike of over 1,000% in mobile traffic from 7am–8am on Friday morning,' says Barry Matheson, John Lewis retail services director.
While every store enjoyed sales growth, it was the At Home stores that lead the way. Newbury enjoyed sales up 30%, Tamworth 26.6%, Poole 25.6% and Swindon 24.6%.
'Trade was a bit softer in the Home assortments, though we are definitely seeing evidence of gifting increasing and it was good to see a positive result in upholstery,' adds Matheson.
