ChristmasshoppingRetailers must gear up for Christmas, or risk losing out on their share of an extra £2.3bn of consumer spending, they have been told.

Shoppers will spend noticeably more this year than last, according to Verdict Research, with spending reaching £90.7bn.
An improved housing market and rising consumer confidence will bring holiday cheer to the UK this Christmas, Verdict claims. Shoppers will spend £53.6bn on non-food purchases and £37.1bn on food for the festive period.
Verdict predicts that online retailing will play a key role in Christmas shopping this year, making up £13bn of spending. Click and collect will be an essential part of this as more retailers promise a next day service: representing 12% of total online spending.
