Flooring stars for John Lewis
John Lewis saw flooring sales jump by more than a third last week.
Flooring was one of the chain’s standout performers as sales rose by 35% in the week ended 27 June.
This helped home sales to rise by 3% in the week and by 4.3% in the 21 week period.
‘As summer weather arrived to celebrate the launch of Clearance, total sales grew by a creditable 3.2% on the previous year. The highlight of the week was the busy start to Clearance, with a very smooth web launch on Wednesday evening which saw some exceptional peaks in online traffic’ says Simon Russell, John Lewis retail operations development director.
‘In shops, a new trial for my John Lewis customers to have an exclusive Clearance preview had a great take-up and was very well received, although Saturday's hot temperatures did have an impact on footfall.
Exeter, Ipswich and Cardiff had the best uplift against the previous year. Horsham's first full week deserves a mention, standing up very well compared to the more established At Home branches.
‘Saturday's southern sunshine meant outdoor Living took an incredible 36% more sales than the same week last year, with home on the whole up 3%. The other standout assortment was floorcoverings, taking 35% more sales than 2014.’
