Brintons talks 'making progress'

The future of carpet manufacturer Brintons could be decided with days, rather than weeks Interiors Monthly has learned.

Talks between the family owned firm and its ‘preferred bidder’ were described as ‘very close’ and ‘going well’ by a source familiar with the negotiations.

The bidder has been reported as being US private-equity firm Carlyle Group, and that it will pay £38m, including Brinton’s £18m of bank loans.

Harry Thursby

The funeral of Harry Thursby, former Sunderland furniture and carpet retailer is due to take place on Tuesday. He died on 4 July, aged 94. An upholsterer, Thursby set up on his own re-upholstering suites in 1947 after being unable to return to his pre-war job, initially using his mother’s front room.
