Gosling to look back at UK’s heritage for Decorex entrance

TIM GOSLINGDesigner Tim Gosling is to create an exhibition looking back at the heritage of British chair making for his curated entrance at September’s Decorex.

Embracing this year’s show theme of The Roots of Design, Gosling’s The Heritage of Chair Making will document the links between interior design, architecture and the heritage of British craftsmanship through the ages.
Working with the historic collections from the Victoria & Albert Museum and The Frederick Parker collection, Glosling will be asking 12 leading British visual creators including: Paul Smith, Jasper Conran and James Dyson, to choose their favourite piece and why it speaks to them.
‘The UK has some of the most important furniture collections in the world, but due to conservation it is not always possible to put them on public display. Thanks to the support of the V&A and The Frederick Parker Collection, I am delighted to be curating an exhibition of chairs, which includes many of these rare and extraordinary pieces,’ says Gosling.
‘In the 18th century, interior designers commissioned furniture makers to design and make bespoke pieces much as they do at Decorex today. If we look closely at the designers exhibiting at Decorex, I am sure we will see they are inspired from both the historical and contemporary chairs on display. Many of these chairs will become the prized pieces of future furniture collections.’
