Furniture continues strong run at John Lewis
Furniture continued to prove popular with John Lewis customers last week.
The chain saw total sales bounce back after being hit by the warm weather, with 9.6% to £88m increase in the week to 1 October.
‘In home sales were up 7% on the year. Furniture continued its run rate at plus 9.5% and lighting also did well at plus 12.6% as the nights start to draw in,’ says Johnathan Marsh, John Lewis Electricals and home technology buying director.
‘John Lewis enjoyed a strong trading week, with sales of £88.0m, up 9.6% on the year, with good performances across all three directorates as customers tried out our new season products. We also opened our latest shop, a small department store in Chelmsford, which received a fantastic reception from our new customers in Essex.’
Home sales for the nine week period were up 1.7%.
The chain has seen furniture sales rise by 9.4%, 13%, 12.8% and 4.3% since early September.
