New Designers secures Sainsbury’s sponsorship
Graduate design show New Designers will be sponsored by Sainsbury’s Home with the winner working for the retailer for a year.
‘We design over 80% of our products in-house and currently have a ceramicist, illustrator and watercolour artist, alongside textile and 3D design experts in our team to bring our designs to life. I can’t wait to view the collections on exhibit and ultimately welcome a rising star into our ranks. I myself started my career back at New Designers in 1997 so this is incredibly close to my heart,’ said Andrew Tanner, Sainsbury’s Home design manager.
‘We’re proud to demonstrate our support of grassroots level design. New Designers is a platform for the most creative and innovative design graduates from across the nation and we’re keen to attract the best new design talent into our in-house design team. Sainsbury’s Home is serious about design and we’re in a privileged position that means our design gets to touch the homes and lives of millions of people every single week,’ said Rona Olds, Sainsbury’s Home head of design and buying.
In week one of New Designers (28 June – 1 July covering textiles and fashion; furniture, product and industrial design; costume design; spatial design and interiors; jewellery and precious metalwork and One Year On), The New Designers Sainsbury's Home Award will be presented to a new designer who shows emerging talent for original print, product and design. The recipient will receive a £500 cash prize and mentoring from the Sainsbury’s Home design team. The winner will also be shortlisted with six other designers (selected over the two-week show) to present portfolios to the Sainsbury’s Home design team. One of the seven will then be awarded Sainsbury’s Home Young Designer of the Year and take up the role of junior designer at Sainsbury’s Home for a year.
Week two of the event (5-8 July) covers graphic design; ceramics and glass; illustration and animation; contemporary design crafts; motion and digital arts and One Year On.
