John Lewis suffers another fall in home sales
John Lewis suffered its fourth consecutive week of lower home sales last week.
Home sales dropped by 6.6% in the week to 21 October. ‘Lighting performed well with sales up 5% due to our own promotion and price matching a competitor's promotion,’ said Barry Matheson, John Lewis head of shop trade, Scotland and north
‘Total sales for the week were £86.7m, down 4.7% on last year due to the continuing mild weather. Fashion sales were down 6.9% overall but sales of beauty, wellbeing and leisure products grew by 0.5% and sales of our jewellery, lingerie and our own-brand womenswear ranges also grew.
‘Electrical and home technology sales were down 0.5%. However, sales of communications technology products such as smartphones, computers and iPads were up.’
