Online offsets store drop at Dunelm

A major rise in online sales helped offset a significant drop in in-store sales at Dunem in the past quarter.

Dunelm saw a 4.6% drop in like for like in-store sales of £8.7m to £179m in the quarter to 30 June. Online sales jumped by £8.9m (41.8%) to £30m.

Total sales, including new stores and the Worldstores businesses, fell by 1.4% to £236.5m.

However it said annual sales had risen by 9.9% to £1.05bn, with online accounting for just over 10%.

It warned that the lower footfall in-store had left it with £3m more of clearance stock that it had planned to sell during the summer sale.

It said the transfer of the final 5,000 Worldstores and Kiddicare (a brand it is going to stop using) products to the Dunelm website would be complete in the coming weeks.
