Aram director Ruth Aram dies of cancer

Leading London interiors retailer Aram has disclosed that director Ruth Aram has died, a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

She died on 7 September, aged 52.

‘Our beloved Ruth has passed away peacefully after a courageous fight against cancer. Her creative passion will live on in all of us here at Aram. Although she knew that time was short, for a year she continued to put all her energy into the things she loved, one of which was Aram Store,’ said her husband Daniel and father Zeev.

A qualified landscape architect, Aram worked at the Building Design Partnership and Ikea before joining her father at Aram Designs. In 1991 she opened the second Aram Designs showroom in Hampstead, which went on to become the highly successful Ruth Aram Shop (RAS). RAS established a reputation for selling some of the most innovative designs available, with The Guardian calling it ‘Hampstead’s chic emporium.’

In 2000 RAS merged into Aram Designs becoming the Aram Store, with Aram becoming head of retail and marketing.

She is survived by her husband and three children.

The store will be closed on 14 September to mark a week since her death.
