Own brand lift fails to boost home for John Lewis
John Lewis saw a large increase in sales of its own-label House brand in the past week but it wasn’t enough to lift overall home sales.
‘Home sales were down 5.4%, but sales of House continue to be good, up 8%, and our recently launched Find, Keep, Give gifting collection, is performing well,’ said Barry Matheson, John Lewis head of shop trade, Scotland and North.
Total sales for the week to 29 September were up 1.8%.
‘Overall fashion sales were up 5.6% on last year. Sales of our own brand womenswear continue to be strong with sales up 9.6%, with particularly good performance in John Lewis Womenswear.
‘Electrical and home technology sales were up 4.1%. Strong sales performance on the new Apple devices continued. Gaming had a very good week driven by new product launches.’
Home sales for the nine week period were down 4.1% with total sales for the period flat.
