Honours List recognition for Coburn
Nick Coburn, Ulster Carpets Group md and deputy chairman was recognised in the New Year Honours List.
Coburn was awarded a CBE for services to the economy in Northern Ireland.
‘I am truly honoured to receive this award which only comes with the support and guidance of so many good people,’ he said.
In 2015 Coburn, who is pictured with a portrait of his grandfather, George Walter Watson, who founder Ulster Carpets in 1938, told the Belfast Telegraph: ‘When I was a child, I was fascinated by the machines and the smell of the wool in the dye house. It was always in the bones. I was fortunate, in that I was able work in all the different areas of the company and learn what went on, from production to sales to design to management.’
He joined the company in 1977 after studying textile and carpet technology at Birmingham University and became md in 2004.
