John Lewis sees another week of falling home sales
John Lewis suffered another week of falling home sales in the past week, although total sales rose.
Home sales dropped by 3.1% in the week to 19 January.
‘Total sales for the week were up 0.7% on the same week last year,’ said Simon Coble, John Lewis trade director.
‘Home sales were down 3.1%. Bath Shop had a good week with sales up 4.6% and Tabletop continued to perform well with sales up 5.7%. Gifts, cook and dine had another good week with sales up 4.9%.
‘Fashion sales were up 7.2%. Premium womens’ accessories had a particularly strong week with sales up 97%. Cold weather products also performed well with sales up 10%.
‘Electrical and home technology sales were down 1%. Tablet and computing sales were up 5.2%, with strong demand for Apple products.’
Home sales for the 25 week period were down 4.1%.
