Warren Evans to return as ‘first reputable online mattress company’
Failed bed retailer Warren Evans is to return as an online retailer, with its eponymous founder claiming it will be the ‘first reputable online mattress company’.
The 14 store chain had sought to find a buyer at the start of last year but fell into administration in February 2018 after a drop in sales, which saw the stores closed by administrator Duff & Phelps.
Evans said he had not been impressed with the quality of mattresses sold by recent entrants to the online mattress market.
‘I don't believe any of them are going to make their guarantee period, let alone be satisfying to the consumer. Most of what I'm seeing is massive advertising budgets,’ he told the Press Association.
The relaunched Warren Evans will offer six mattresses, four of which will be for children with the company selling them at costs price ‘because they are often sold inadequate and overpriced products.’
Customers will be offered a 40-night trial.
‘Losing the business that my team and I lovingly created and nurtured to the 14-store success, was an utterly heart-rending experience. The challenging market conditions put us under immense pressure and despite our best efforts to overcome them, they proved too much.’
