John Lewis sees home dip
John Lewis saw a dip in home sales in the past week, despite good performances from textiles and gifts.
‘Total sales for the week [to 13 July] were up 1.3% as customers continued to shop summer Clearance offers. It was a particularly good week in our shops despite being up against a busy weekend of sport,’ says Maggie Porteous, John Lewis shop trade director.
‘Home sales were down 0.7%, although textiles and home accessories had a strong week with sales up 8.1%. We also saw strong sales in gift food, up 8.7%, and our own brand Find, Keep, Give collection continues to drive sales in gifts, up 10.8%.
‘Fashion sales were up 7.2%, with own-brand fashion performing particularly well with sales up 6.6%.
‘Electrical and home technology sales were down 2.3%, with cooler weather compared to the same week last year impacting sales of warm weather products such as refrigeration and fans. Android and smart home had a strong week with sales up 19%.'
