Sale boost for John Lewis
John Lewis saw increased overall and home sales in the final week of its summer sale.
‘Total sales for the week [to 20 July] were up 1.3% in our final week of summer clearance. We had a particularly strong Saturday in our shops,’ says Laurence Mitchell, John Lewis electrical and home technology buying director.
‘Home sales were up 0.9%. It was a good week in textiles and home accessories with sales up 7.7% largely driven by sales of bedding, with Bed & Bath up 9.5%.
‘Fashion sales were up 3.8% as customers shopped clearance final markdowns. Womenswear accessories performed particularly well with sales up 9%, driven by sales of handbags.
‘Electrical and home Technology sales were down 1%. Customers were getting their gardens ready for the heatwave, with lawn mowers up 400%. We are also well set up for this week with good availability of fans.’
Home sales for the 25 week period were down 3.4%.
