John Lewis sees sales plunge
John Lewis saw total and home sales plunge in the past week.
‘Total sales were down 12.4% [in the week to 21 September] on the same week last year due to warmer weather impacting sales of new season products,’ says Simon Coble, John Lewis trading director.
‘Home sales were down 13.4%. However, our own brand House range continues to perform well as customers enjoyed shopping for Off to University items.
‘Fashion sales were down 12.3%, however beauty sales were up 0.7% as we price matched a competitor’s promotion.
Electrical and home technology sales were down 11.4%, but demand for new communications technology product launches picked up over the weekend.’
