Selfridges to close its stores
Department store chain Selfridges is to close its four stores in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.
‘The health, safety and wellbeing of our customers and team members is our upmost priority. We must do the right thing by the communities in which we live and work to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus,’ it posted on Twitter.
It said it was with ‘a heavy heart’ the stores would close at 7pm this evening. IT said it would continue to service customers online.
An online petition had been begun wanting its Oxford Street store closed, claiming six employees had tested positively for the virus. More than 5,000 people have signed the petition.
