Thousands queue as Ikea reopens stores
Thousands of shoppers queued for hours to shop at Ikea after it reopened 19 branches in England and Northern Ireland yesterday.
The chain had told consumers that the number of people allowed in-store will be limited and only one adult and one child per household.
Its Warrington branch saw customers turn up more than three hours before the 9am opening, with more than 1,000 people in the queue.
‘Where we've seen strong demand we've taken appropriate decisions to open early for browsing and to temporarily close our car parks to help ease pressure and reduce waiting times,’ says Ikea. ‘We're incredibly grateful to the public in playing their part to help keep everyone safe.’
In the West Midlands, police took to social media to warn of a long queue at the Wednesbury branch. ‘Please consider if you need to go there today as you may be in for a very long wait,’ they Tweeted.
