Emma passes 1million milestone as it lifts sales forecast 20%
Mattress company Emma has sold its millionth mattress well ahead of schedule and raised its sales forecast for 2020 by 20%.
The millionth mattress was sold in the UK. ‘We had reckoned to sell the one millionth Emma at some point in 2020, but we have now reached this milestone much earlier than expected,’ says Dennis Schmoltzi, Emma co-ceo.
The company has appointed former Amazon operations manager Santosh Marrivagu to head its UK and Ireland operation. He succeeds Benjamin Quiroga-Rivera, who has become business development md in charge of boosting sales in Asia.
‘Our business in the UK has grown tremendously, beating our own expectations. Emma Mattress increased its revenue by more than 150% in April and May in the UK. Whereas competitors are preparing for subdued demand, Emma expects to keep its high growth dynamic during the upcoming months,’ says Marrivagu.
As it is the case with many online retailers, the lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic has also spurred online sales for Emma. ‘In view of all the effects described, we are increasing our sales target for 2020 by 20%, from 200 million euros to 240 million euros,’ says Schmoltzi.
