Quartet of Design Guild Mark awards for Gabbertas

ChorusDiaboloMark Gabbertas scooped four awards in the The Furniture Makers scheme, which rewards excellence in the design of furniture in volume production. This year 21 of the 42 designs entered were recognised.

Gabbertas picked up awards for: Metro for Lyndon Design, and Diabolo (pictured), Mir and MirA for Chorus Furniture.

The other winners were: Ian Archer, Raffa Chairs for Couch Design; Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, The Sofa Collection for Knoll International and Tip Ton for Vitra; Samuel Chan, Finnieston Bookcase and

Finnieston Console Table for Channels; Martin Dodge, Radial Table Mechanism for Martin Dodge Furniture; Ali Edwards, Navajo for John Lewis; Dave Green, Rockingham Rocker made by Sitting Firm Chairmakers; Terry Hunt, UniteSE SpaceStation for KI; James Irvine, Juno for Arper; Je-Uk Kim, Credenza O for JiB Design Studio; Roger Webb Associates, WHY Chairs for Connection; Steuart Padwick, The Horseshoe Chair manufactured by Sitting Firm Chairmakers and distributed by Steuart Padwick; Simon Pengelly, Jonty for Chorus Furniture; Russell Pinch, Holland Park Chairs manufactured by Ercol; Wales & Wales, Marylebone Chairs for Benchmark and Wills Watson & Associates, Corsair for WJ White.

'I really enjoyed the judging this year, and thought, as ever, there were some really interesting and innovative products submitted. The standard continues to be high, and after some lively debate I believe we have a great selection of product this year. It was good to see a mix across domestic and commercial product too,' says Jason Wilary-Attew, John Lewis head of furniture buying.

Fellow judge Nick Hill, Marks & Spencer head of innovation and quality says: 'The Design Guild Mark allows designers to get acknowledgement and recognition from a broad cross section of the UK furniture industry. A great opportunity to showcase the best of furniture designs created in Britain.'

The winning designs will be on show at 100% Design in the autumn.
