House plans UK push
Australian homewares and flooring retailer House is planning to open 75 stores across the UK, with the first opening by next April.
House, part of the Global Retail Brands group, hopes to open 25 stores a year.
The group has 170 stores in Australia.
Steven Lew, Global Retail Brands chief executive says it will avoid high profile flagship stores to ensure the same standards in every branch.
‘Over the last couple of years we’ve looked at opportunity markets, both nationally and internationally, and the UK seemed like a very good fit for us. Our overall aim is to inspire customers and enjoy entertaining at home,’ says Steven Lew, Global Retail Brands chief executive.
‘We want House to become a household name in the UK. We believe that 75 stores is a safe number to target, however, this will very much be opportunity-led. We also want to create a sustainable product; for example, we are not focusing on putting a showcase on Oxford Street [London] as we want the first store to be the same as the 75th store. If compelling opportunities present themselves, we will have the opportunity to open even more stores.’
The group has appointed MMX Retail to help it find locations.
