Home shines for John Lewis
John Lewis saw strong home sales in the past week, driven by textiles and bedroom.
‘Home sales had a good week, up 5.8%. Textiles and home accessories enjoyed strong growth, with sales up 9.3% on last year. Bedroom furniture and mattresses were also up 9.0%, and cook and dine saw sales rise by 3.2%,’ said Sean Allam, John Lewis commercial operations director.
‘Total sales for the week [to 5 August] were up 5.5% at £77.7m, giving a good start to the half, with both shops and online seeing an uplift in sales on last year. Fashion sales were up 4.5%, driven by a strong performance in beauty, wellbeing and leisure, up 8.6%, with fragrance a standout. Both mens and womenswear clothing also saw an uplift on last year, growing by 8.0% and 4.2% respectively, with new lines for AW17 performing particularly strongly.
‘Electricals and home technology sales were also up, rising by 6.9%. Vision sales were up 11%, driven by new launches, with sales of premium cameras and drones also up as customers took the opportunity to capture memories of their summer holidays.’
