John Lewis sees second week of falling home sales

JLChristmas17Home sales at John Lewis have fallen for the second week in a row.

The chain saw home sales fall by 2.5% in the week to 7 October. The only home highlight was Christmas Villages continuing to perform strongly and Halloween products were up 30% on 2016, according to Amanda Dammers, John Lewis head of shop trade Central and Midlands.
‘Total sales for the week were £89.1m, down 0.9% on last year. Electricals and home technology was up 2.4%, driven by strong sales in communication technology. Apple products, including Macbooks and iPhones 8 and 6, performed well. Elsewhere, Sony and Panasonic TVs had a strong week, as did beverage products such as kettles and coffee machines.
‘Warmer weather at the start of October had an impact on fashion sales, which were down 2.7%. However the Kin range had a record week, up 55% compared to last year,’ she said.
Home sales for the 10 week period were down by 0.3%.
The previous week had seen home sales drop by 5.1%, as overall sales fell by 1.9%.
