No more flooring at Browns

Browns of York is to close its flooring department to expand its furniture offer.

The department store will replace the flooring department at its flagship York store with upholstery.

‘As sales in this department in our city centre store continue to grow, it has become necessary for us to create more space for furniture. As such, Browns of York will be discontinuing floorcoverings in order to concentrate on this development and the introduction of Danish brand, Nest which offers a range of contemporary, modern sofas,’ says Nicolas Brown, Browns of York owner.

‘This is a significant development and we’re very excited and look forward to the new sofas from Nest – creating style, hygge and happiness – arriving in store in September.’

The family-owned company has operated in York since 1890, initially as WP Brown (pictured in 1974), expanding to Helmsley, Beverley and Gainsborough between 1992-2012.
