Sharon White, former John Lewis chairman has been made a peer.
Baroness White, who was paid almost £1m a year to run John Lewis and Waitrose, will join the House of Lords as non-aligned crossbench peer.
She had been made a dame in 2020 for public services
Before joining the department store and grocery group White was the first black person and second woman to become a permanent secretary at the Treasury, before serving Ofcom ceo between 2015 and 2019.
She chaired John Lewis between 2020 and 2024, during which time John Lewis saw a raft of store closures, multi-million pound losses and criticism over White’s lack of retail experience.
