International tension leads to closure decision

A Persian rug retailer is to close down after international tensions hit its ability to source stock.

Desert Rugs Gallery opened in Aberdeen two and a half years ago, but owner Niaz Ali says the store will close on 18 July.

‘We have decided to closed down due to the ongoing issues in the rugs weaving region. The majority of our rugs were coming from Iran and Afghanistan, however, the Iran conflict and the tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has resulted in the borders closing,’ he says.

‘That has severely hampered our rugs sourcing. This sourcing issue was also coinciding with the review of

our lease term in July we so took the difficult decision to close our store permanently.’
