You can’t say that: Origin gets another ASA rap

Origin Sleep has again broken rules on pricing and sales offers.

The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld three complaints about Origin’s online pricing claims, discounts and reduction availability: topics that have seen numerous complaints across the sector, as well as legal action from the CMA, including its ongoing case against Emma.

It the third time ASA has upheld complaints about Origin.

In this case Simba Sleep complained about offers from Origin with promised savings, bundled items and included a countdown timer.

The ASA rejected Origin’s defence over the three complaints and found that it had breached the rules on misleading advertising, qualification and prices.

‘The ad must not appear again in the form complained of. We told Origin Sleep UK to ensure that pricing claims should not suggest a saving against a product when it was actually referring to a saving based on an additional free item. We also told them to ensure their ads did not misleadingly imply that discount offers were time-limited, or that consumers needed to act more quickly than was necessary to take advantage of an offer,’ says the ASA.
