Bed sustainability finalists revealed

The finalists in the Bed Industry Awards sustainability category have been revealed.

Now in its second year, the award attracted more than double the number of entries than in 2020, with 13 companies putting themselves forward with their sustainable initiatives. Judging criteria included products, waste and energy management, design, packaging, procurement, end-of-life management, employee engagement and corporate social responsibility.

‘The number of entrants is enormously encouraging, given the growing importance of sustainability in all our lives. There are some fantastic initiatives going on in our industry – emanating from companies large and small – covering everything from carbon reduction, eco-design, circularity, traceability and biodiversity. Everyone who entered should be pleased to learn that the judges – all leading experts in the field of sustainability – were impressed by the number and quality of all the entries and deliberated very carefully and thoroughly to reach their choice of this year’s finalists,’ says Jessica Alexander, NBF executive director.

The judges were: David Fitzsimons, Oakdene Hollins and European Remanufacturing Council director; Amy Peace, Innovate UK innovation lead in the circular economy; and Martin Charter, University for the Creative Arts professor of innovation and sustainability and director of The Centre for Sustainable Design.

The finalists are: Harrison Spinks, Hypnos, Millbrook Beds and Silentnight Group.

The winner will be revealed at the Bed Show gala dinner on 21 September, alongside the winners of the NBF Retail Champion of the Year; National Bed Retailer of the Year; Online Bed Retailer of the Year; Bed Product of the Year and Component Product of the Year.
