Annual sales jump despite store closures

Both flooring and furniture and lighting almost showed a double-digit increase in retail sales in March, despite stores being closed.

ONS sales figures show that average weekly furniture and lighting sales were £232,394,000 in March in England, Scotland and Wales.

This was 15.1% lower than in 2019 by 15% higher than 2020.

In flooring sales reached 23,568,000, down 13.87% on 2019 but 9% higher than 2020.

The figures are ONS’ first estimates are likely to be revised in the coming months.
