At Salone: Old becomes new at Jan Kath

Jan Kath presented Savonnerie Surprise a rug collection reinterpreting traditional designs through the use of vivid colours and a free intermingling of linear and formal elements.

Savonnerie Surprise further enriches the elements of the Erased Heritage collection, conceived as a tribute to traditional rugs and reinterpreted thanks to a superimposition of pattern and colour.

The hand-knotted rugs that reinterpret the Baroque graphic motifs typical of the XVII century French tradition.

The use of two different materials enables the creation of the details characterising each rug.

Hand-combed and hand-spun highland wool is used to recreate the patterns of European tradition while Jan Kath’s imagination is freely expressed in an extremely fine Chinese silk: intense saturated hues stand out against delicate pastel shades, tracing lines, geometric patterns, and colours that overspread the original design.
