Sustainable flooring recycling scheme Recofloor has passed the 8,000tonnes of collected recovered milestone.
The scheme collected 563 tonnes of flooring (enough material to cover 26 regulation‑sized football pitches) last year, an increase of 6%.
Since Recofloor was founded by Altro and Polyflor in 2009, 8,016tonnes (the same weight as 5,726 black rhinos) have been recovered.
Of the flooring gathered in 2025, 21tonnes was able to be repurposed for reuse, made possible through logistical and operational support from Headlam.
38 members were recruited during the year, and Recofloor supported 126 collectors and expanded its availability in Northern Ireland, reinstating collections for waste vinyl flooring in the Belfast area through distributor Provincial Floorcoverings.
‘2025 has been a really positive year for Recofloor, and we are delighted to be welcoming even more members to our scheme. Over the next year we will continue to increase support for our members and we are looking at how we can improve operational efficiencies so that we further reduce the environmental impact of flooring across the industry,’ says Carla Eslava, Recofloor project manager.
