Consumers plan to keep up spending on soft furnishings

Online and specialist home retailers are the most popular place for consumers to shop for soft furnishings, as they look to maintain or increase spending in the coming year.

These are the key findings of Kleen-Tex’s Homewares Buyers Index.

The survey of 1,000 consumers found that online was the favourite shopping method (68.16%), followed by specialist home retailers (67.37%) and mid-market fashion and home chains (63.67%).

The analysis found that 75% of consumers say they will look for better deals and discounts before making a purchase, whilst the-thirds say they’d be prepared to invest more in more durable or better quality products.

Half of shoppers say saying their homeware buying habits won’t change, planning to spend up to £500 a year.

25-44 year-olds are most impulsive, spending the most on impulsive soft furnishings purchases, up to £210 per purchase. Pet lovers are also more likely to spend more on home furnishings (5% more) indicating a desire for more quality items that can keep up with their pet-friendly lifestyle.
