Customer loyalty scheme and furniture expansion boosts Garden Trading

Homeware etailer Garden Trading saw sales jump in the run-up to Christmas, helped by its expanded furniture offer and customer loyalty scheme.

Furniture sales rose by 50% in the 10-week period, including 90% growth across living room and an 70% rise in the expanded kitchen and dining offer.

The homeware category saw a 90% jump in textiles sales and 50% growth across new tableware ranges. Seasonal Christmas ranges grew by 45%.

The Club scheme was launched at the start of the Autumn/Winter season. ‘Club has had a dramatic effect both on bringing new customers to Garden Trading, and on how they act once they have given us a try. We had our two biggest ever months for customer acquisition, whilst achieving excellent metrics for our existing customers with retention coming in at 60% and increasing average customer value by 22% through improvements in spend and frequency,’ says Richard Bell, Garden Trading md.

‘Nothing comes easily in this category, so it’s a great reflection of the creativity, resilience, and culture of our teams that this has been achieved against such a challenging trading environment.’

The company says it ended the year with sales 41% higher. Sales figures were not provided. However, Garden Trading is part of the £19m turnover THG Capital, of which about half of its 2024 turnover is believed to come from Garden Trading and the group’s online teak furniture sales. THG also operates a garden centre in Harrogate.
