Claudia Dorsch will design the VIP lounge at this year’s Decorex, bringing a fully immersive alpine home to the heart of the show with Back to the Future, The Chalet Reimagined.
Known for her Alpine chalets and her city townhouses, Dorsch is one of a small number of UK designers to have built a specialism in ski chalet design, as the exhibition moves the lounge towards a real home guests can step inside for the 11-14 October event.
‘Designing chalets has been one of the most rewarding focuses of the studio for the last five years, so designingthe VIP lounge for Decorex has been an opportunity to draw on this, and to articulate where I believe chalet design is heading,’ she says.
‘It’s a celebration of the heritage of alpine life, timber, fire, raw metal and fur, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens,’ she says.
‘I wanted to create a space where visitors want to linger, to slow down, exhale and feel pulled toward the fire.’
The concept reframes the understated glamour of 1970s European alpine culture, drawing on Switzerland, France and Italy, with the true luxury of togetherness rather than wealth and is a chalet designed to be
lived in across all four seasons, not just the skiing season.
‘I don’t decorate rooms. I create places where memories unfold, a home that lets you, at last, exhale,’ she says.
