FFD day three: Green at the heart of it

United by region, united by sustainability. This was a key message as Flanders Flooring Days entered its second half of the 2025 edition.

Across showrooms and at the Kortrijk Xpo, increasing moves towards a circular economy and higher interst is sustainable materials was clear to see.

Wether it was common materials for improved recycling at end of life, increased use of recycled materials or designing new products so they start more eniviromentally freindly, the event is proving that sceptics that previously argued it couldn’t be done or there was no need for it to be done were on the losing side of the arguement.

European research project CISUFLO and Living Lab Circulaire Houtcluster are helping to provide futher answers, with CISUFLO’s research into carpet, vinyl and laminate manufacturing and Living Lab’s best use of wood project.

The topic also forms two of the keynote presentations of the show. Judith van Vliet wil argue that consumers tend to think long-term when buying flooring and want to know more about how products are made and having to keep up with new trends is losing out to the classics. Her talk is today at 4pm.

On Thursday, the event’s final day, Christine Boland will speak about trends and how design responds to the zeitgeist. She will unveil the ‘design of the times’ and talk about healing aesthetics, artistic intelligence and crafted minimalism.
