Flooring inflation climbs

Retail flooring inflation jumped to double figures in December, reversing recent falls.

The rate for carpets and flooring jumped from 9.3% to 10.5%: the highest figure in at least a year.

Smooth flooring was responsible for most of the increase, leaping from 14.6% to 19.7%: the highest rate since May’s 21%.

Carpet and rugs also saw a higher rate of price increases, with inflation jumping from 8.6% to 9.4%, again the highest rate for at least a year.
