Flooring sales see major drop

Flooring sales dropped by more than a fifth in April, but were almost double pre-pandemic levels.

The value of retail flooring sales in England, Scotland and Wales fell by 20.59%, according to the Office for National Statistics. Sales dropped from £289.34m in March to £229.749m.

However, despite the decline it was still the 35th best month since records began in January 1986.

Sales were 31.75% higher than April 2021, up 687% on April 2020 and 99.1% higher than April 2019.

The figures are ONS’ first estimate of sales and are subject to revision and do not take inflation into account.
