Flooring Superstore nears half century as it plans warehousing boost

Flooring Superstore has opened its 49th store as to looks to reorganise its warehousing.

The chain has opened in the former Carpetright unit on the The Oaks Retail Park, Harlow, Essex, creating three jobs.

The store is its sixth opening in the past five months and has seen an investment of £150,000.

‘The Oaks is a thriving retail park and is directly opposite the town’s largest retail scheme, the Queensgate Centre, so this will help to generate the amount of footfall we have become accustomed to,’ says Ian Robinson, Flooring Superstore regional manager.

Meanwhile, the chain has agreed to consolidate warehousing spread across a number of units in Shilden, County Durham to a 63,000qsft warehouse part of the Integra 61 development near Junction 61 of the A1(M). The site already has a 2million sqft Amazon warehouse.

‘The north-east is unfortunately not blessed with units of this standard at affordable prices. As soon as we saw this particular warehouse we knew it was the one for us. With the motorway access so close and the distance to our existing warehouses also not too far away, it was ideal for us to remain within driving distance of existing distribution centres and remain local for all our existing members of staff, which was very important to us. To be able to expand sustainably and offer our warehouse staff better working environments is a win-win,’ says Nick Bisicker, Flooring Superstore operations director.
