Footfall drops back once more

Travel disruption and the good weather contributed to a drop in non-food retail footfall in the past week.

Footfall was 18.9% lower than in 2019 in the week to 26 June, according to Ipsos’ Retail Traffic Index.

This compares with a drop of 16.7% and 15.2% in the previous two weeks.

High streets were the worst hit, with footfall 21.7% lower, followed by shopping centres (-20.3%) and retail parks (-12.5%).

Regionally performance varied from -15.6% in the north of England to -23.4% in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
