Footfall falls again

Retail footfall dropped in the past week, with many regions struggling to achieve 75% of that seen in 2019.

Ipsos’ Retail Traffic Index for the week ending 6 February saw footfall fall by 1.4% compared with the previous week and by 23.2% on 2019.

High streets were the most impacted, with footfall down 28.2%, followed by shopping centres (27.3%) and retail parks (17.8%). All three saw a weekly drop in numbers.

Regionally, London and the South East was the worst hit, down 29% on 2019, followed by Wales and South West England (28.6%), Scotland and Northern Ireland (27.6%), the Midlands (24.9%) and Northern England (22.8%).
