Footfall improves

Retail footfall improved last week despite shoppers enjoying the fine weather.

Non-food retail footfall, as measured by Ipsos Retail Traffic Index, was 19.7% lower compared with 2019. This was better than the previous week’s -21.5%.

Retail parks again proved the most resilient, with footfall down 12.9%; followed by high streets at -17.7% and shopping centres at -18.4%.

The north of England again proved the keenest on shopping, with footfall down 13.6%. In contrast it was down 22.8% in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
