Footfall leaps as high streets perform

Non-food retail footfall jumped in the past week.

Footfall was down by 11% in the week to 7 August, compared with 2019. This compares with an average of 19.5% during July.

High streets were the best performing retail sector, according to Ipsos’ Retail Traffic Index, with footfall 9% lower. Retail parks saw a 12.5% drop and shopping centres saw numbers 13.1% lower.

Northern England was again the best performing region, with footfall down by 8.9%, while the Midlands saw numbers drop by 11.8%.
