Small and medium city and town centres continue to enjoy the strongest recovery in footfall overall since lockdown restrictions were lifted, while larger cities continue to struggle.
However, according to the Centre for Cities’ latest High Streets Recovery Tracker, footfall fell by the end of June in 62 of 63 town and city centres studied.
Southend saw the greatest recovery, with footfall in the final week of June at 81% of February 2020.
This was followed by Blackpool (77%), Basildon, Chatham and Burnley (72%), Aldershot (71%), Mansfield (69%), Gloucester and Wigan (68%) and Barnsley (67%).
London saw the lowest recovery (33%), behind Birmingham and Manchester (41%), Glasgow (pictured) (43%), Leeds and Cardiff (46%), Aberdeen (48%), Nottingham (49%), Liverpool and Milton Keynes (50%).
