Footfall sees another week of recovery

Non-food retail footfall showed a boost for the third consecutive week, but was still well short of 2019 levels.

Footfall was down 11.6% in the week to 16 October. However, this was an improvement on the 13.2% drop the previous week, and 17.5% the week before that.

High streets, retail parks and shopping centres all saw an improvement, according to the Ipsos Retail Traffic Index.

High streets saw a 10% drop (10.8%) compared with 2019; retail parks recovered some lost ground with footfall 10% lower (10.8%) while shopping centres saw a 13.4% drop in visitors (17.4%).

Northern England, and South West England and Wales were best performing areas, with footfall down 9.9% and 10% respectively.
