Footfall slips back

After three weeks of recovery, footfall slipped back in the past week.

Non-food retail footfall fell by 17.1% in the week to 23 October compared with 2019. This follows drops of 11.6%, 13.2% and 17.5% in the previous three weeks.

High streets, retail parks and shopping centres all saw an improvement, according to the Ipsos Retail Traffic Index.

High streets saw a 15% drop (-10%) compared with 2019; retail parks fell back with a 15.8% drop (-10%) while shopping centres saw a 18.7% drop in visitors (-13.4%).

Scotland and Northern Ireland was the best performing area, with footfall down 15.7%.
