Furniture inflation halves

Retail inflation for furniture more than halved last month.

Prices rose by 0.5% in the year to April, down from 1.2% in March.

Garden furniture, which has seen double-digit deflation for more than a year, saw a dramatic drop in the rate, from 11.6% to 1.4%.

Lighting saw the opposite, with deflation rising from 2.9% to 4.2%.

Household textiles saw inflation drop from 1.2% to 0.3%, thanks to furnishing fabrics and curtains, which saw inflation fall from 3.3% to 1.1%, while bed linen inflation rose from 0.3% to 0.4% and saw deflation pick up from 1.2% to 1.8%.
