Heatwave sees footfall wilt

Non-food retail footfall wilted in the heat last week.

High streets, retail parks and shopping centres all saw less visitors in the week to 14 August, compared with 2019.

High streets suffered a drop of 12.8% (9%); retail parks saw numbers decline by 16.2% (12.5%) and shopping centres were down by 17.5% (13.1%), according to the Ipsos Retail Traffic Index.

Overall footfall was 15.6% lower (11%) in the week, with Scotland and Northern Ireland seeing the greatest drop at 18.8%.
